The SAFE Office is committed to ensuring that all Rice undergraduate and graduate students have access to the care, rights, and resources they need. Whether you have experienced interpersonal violence or have been accused of a policy violation, navigating campus processes can be complex. We are here to help you understand your options, manage stress, and ensure your education and safety are prioritized.

All services provided by the SAFE Office are free and strictly centered on student autonomy. Our goal is to empower you to make the choices that are best for your situation.

The SAFE Office offers support with:

Emotional support

Education on healthy relationships, consent, and interpersonal violence dynamics

Safety planning

Information on reporting options

Accompaniments to appointments

Assistance with supportive measures

Referrals to on-and off-campus resources

Navigation support for reporting and responding students in Title IX-related cases

Understanding Privacy & Confidentiality:

Rice staff and faculty are either responsible or confidential employees. Most campus staff, including SAFE Resource Navigators, are Responsible Employees, meaning we are required to notify the Title IX Office when informed of interpersonal violence, harassment, or stalking.

Even with this requirement, you remain in control. A notification to Title IX simply connects you to supportive resources. This does not launch an investigation, contact your parents, or require you to participate in any process unless you choose to. We prioritize your privacy and share only essential details to coordinate supportive measures for you.
